India's Ajinkya Rahane broke the world record on Friday after taking eight catches in a single Test match by a non-wicketkeeper in the history of the game. He achieved the feat in the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle.

New Delhi: India's Ajinkya Rahane broke the world record on Friday after taking eight catches in a single Test match by a non-wicketkeeper in the history of the game. He achieved the feat in the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle.
The middle-order batsman has latched on to eight catches so far in this Test match and his application on the field has been positive. His eighth catch was that of Rangana Herath who lost his wicket to spinner Amit Mishra.

Rahane overtook the likes of Greg Chappell, Hasan Tillakaratne, Stephen Fleming and Mathew Hayden who all had seven catches. For India Yajuvendra Singh held the record with seven catches which was established in 76/77 vs England.
